<p><strong>May 12, 2012 &#8211; May 13, 2012</strong></p>
<p>Annual ritual to ensure that the seasonal rains fall at the appropriate time in the planting cycle. In the process, Buddhist merit-making traditions are also observed and reinforced. The festival, which is held over a period of three days, strengthens community spirit.</p>
<p>The first day known as “Wan Suk |Dip” features a ritual to play homage to Chao Pu, the spirit of the city pillar.</p>
<p>The second day is the rocket procession day. Each is escorted by a colourful dance troupe. The rocket are finally launched on the third day in which various rockets and beauty contests are held. It is also a day for the ordination of novices with festive celebrations following merit-making rituals.</p>

For individuals trained in the ancient Thai art of boxing or ‘Muay Thai’, the annual Wai Khru Muay Thai Ceremony held during the annual Thai Martial Arts Festival is the most important date on their calendar. Muay Thai boxers from around the world return to Ayutthaya to pay respect to their teachers, and to pay homage to the legendary Muay Thai folk hero, Nai Khanom Tom. Each year, more than 300 boxers from 30 countries including the UK, Canada, Russia, Korea, France, Ukraine, and South Africa, participate in the festival and show their appreciation for the beautiful art of Muay Thai.</p>
<p>There will also be a Muay Thai tournament with boxers contending for the Nai Khanom Tom belt with a cash prize for the weight divisions of 60, 65, 70, and 80 kilograms. There will also be a Wai Khru competition for students.</p>

<p>08.00- 10.00 hrs. &#8211; Attend the rituals to worship Nai Khanom Tom at the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Stadium.</p>
<p>14.00 &#8211; 15.00 hrs. &#8211; See the youth contest in the Wai Kru Muay Thai or respect paying ceremony.</p>
<p>17.00 &#8211; 18.00 hrs. &#8211; Learn and enjoy the demonstrations of Thai arts, handicrafts, and culture, including the Traditional Thai Tattoo, making of Aranyik swords, performing of Thai martial arts, and an exhibition of ancient weapons.</p>
<p>18.00 &#8211; 20.00 hrs. &#8211; Wai Kru Muay Thai ceremony, worshipping Thai ancestral kings and brave soldiers who protected the motherland; namely, King Naresuan the Great, King Suea, and Phraya Phichai Dap Hak.</p>

<p>With each subsequent year, the Thailand International Kite Festival attracts an ever-growing number of devoted kite fans, participants and spectators, from all over Thailand as well as from countries around the region, and beyond.</p>
<p>The colourful kite festival thus presents a golden opportunity for visitors to savour the international flavour of kite culture in a single trip.</p>
<p>As well as kite events there will also be a parachute show, a radio controlled airplane show and competition. As with any Thai festival there will be plenty of food and handicraft booths everywhere to keep you occupied as well. This annual event is really one not to be missed and definitely one of the more colorful events of the year.</p>

<p>The Phuket International Blues Rock Festival continues to grow bigger, with more than a dozen acts performing on stage during the two-night 2009 event. Now a firm fixture in Phuket’s annual entertainment calendar, the Phuket Blues festival attracts top blues bands from around Thailand in addition to popular bands from Australia and the US, making it arguably the most exciting Thailand music festival. Ricky Zen emceed the 2009 event, which was headlined by Eric Bibb! Eric is a New York native but has lived in Europe most of his adult life. He is one of the greatest contemporary bluesmen and tours constantly all over the world. The 2009 festival also featured a tribute act for the first time: Chasing Jimi &#8211; a Tribute to Jimi Hendrix featuring Jimmy Fame (USA). Established to support local charities, the Phuket International Blues Rock Festival donates funds to charities that organize education for young children &#8212; the Phuket International Women’s Club and the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation.</p>
